DJ Warras murder trial postponed over legal fees as police search for Co-accused
The Johannesburg High Court has granted a final postponement for the pre-trial conference of Victor Majola, the alleged mastermind behind the targeted murder of Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, due to a legal funding dispute.
The matter has been rescheduled to September 18, 2026, to allow for the resolution of outstanding fees for the accused’s defence counsel. Majola faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and premeditated murder. His lawyer, Piet Du Plessis, informed the court that his firm has not been fully funded to represent Majola at trial.
Consequently, the court granted the extension to allow Majola and his family to resolve the financial issues. Majola remains in custody after previously being denied bail.
The charges stem from the fatal shooting of the 40-year-old popular radio and television personality on 16 December 2025 outside Zambesi House (also known as the Zambesi Building) near the Carlton Centre in the Johannesburg Central Business District (CBD). Investigators have described the killing as a contract-style targeted assassination. At the time of the incident, Stock was overseeing the installation of biometric security at the hijacked building through his company, Imperium Ops.
The alleged gunman, 25-year-old Mozambican national Joaquim Armando Pacula, previously entered into a plea agreement with the State, admitting he killed Stock in exchange for R25,000. He was subsequently convicted of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and immigration violations, and is currently serving an effective 25-year prison sentence.
Meanwhile, detectives from the SAPS Provincial Investigation Unit for Serious and Violent Crimes have issued an urgent appeal for public assistance in locating 40-year-old Hlengiwe Goodness Buthelezi, who is wanted on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the same case.
Buthelezi, who reportedly lived in the building, is alleged to have been part of an informal committee that collected rent unlawfully from tenants, and was reportedly involved in a dispute with Stock over the new security measures.
During Majola’s bail proceedings, the State alleged that Buthelezi—who was Majola’s girlfriend—had sent Majola Stock’s personal details, including his vehicle registration numbers and information about his partner. Although she was previously arrested in connection with the case, she was later released.
Anyone with information regarding Buthelezi’s whereabouts is urged to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Nengovhela, on 082 967 9362. Information can also be provided anonymously via the MySAPS App or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
