KZN SAPS give March and March a green light to peaceful march on June 30

Following a slight misunderstanding between the City of Durban and March and March organisers, which led to an impasse regarding the routes that marchers may use on 30 June 2026, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Phumelele Makoba, Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner: Policing, Major General Vukani Mgobhozi, and Acting Provincial Commissioner responsible for Crime Detection, Major General Anthony Gopaul, met with the organisers of March and March, led by Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, on Thursday afternoon to seek a solution.

Makoba and her management took it upon themselves to intervene so that there is harmony between the City, law enforcement, and March and March.

“We believe that there was a misunderstanding which needs to be cleared. As police, we will engage the Metro, and our commitment is that law enforcement and March and March will reach an agreement, albeit with a compromise on the routes that the marchers will use, and police will be there to guarantee safety and security. We will protect you as you march and enforce the law against those with ill intentions,” said Makoba.

Makoba said police in KZN are ready to police the main march in Durban and all gatherings that may occur in different areas, especially at identified hotspots.

“Those who are planning to march are advised to heed the call to march peacefully and respect the rule of law. Normal policing continues as police execute their constitutional mandate of safeguarding the residents of KwaZulu-Natal and their property,” said Makoba.

The excited March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma took to her social media pages and posted: “Thank you KZN SAPS. 30th June we are on the streets. Until we win.”
