Dlamini Zuma Responds to Mbalula’s Court Action: “Money is Killing the ANC”

Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has officially filed a notice of intention to oppose the legal action initiated against her by ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula.
The legal dispute stems from comments she made during an interview on the African Renaissance Podcast regarding the corrupting influence of money in the party’s internal voting processes.
Dlamini Zuma released a public statement on Thursday warning that the commercialization of leadership contests directly threatens the core character and survival of the African National Congress.
The public spat highlights deepening internal friction within South Africa’s governing party as it attempts to navigate its promised path of organizational renewal.
According to the statement, Mbalula served Dlamini Zuma with court papers on August 21, 2026. Her legal team responded four days later, formalizing her intent to fight the matter in court.
Despite the pending legal battle, Dlamini Zuma emphasized that she stands firmly by her original remarks, maintaining that money has become a destructive force when it overrides political conviction.
While committing to respect the judicial process by withholding detailed merits of the case from the media, Dlamini Zuma argued that the root of the problem cannot be resolved through law courts alone.
She called on the movement to find the internal courage to confront its financial challenges directly, asserting that the commercialization of leadership is actively “killing the ANC.”
