Gauteng’s Health Department has strongly denied recent reports suggesting that bodies were piling up at Helen Joseph Hospital due to a lack of printer cartridges.
Concerns were raised after allegations surfaced that delays in printing documentation had prevented the transfer of deceased individuals to state mortuaries for nearly two weeks.
In response, officials clarified that these claims are unfounded. According to the department, there is currently only one body in the hospital’s mortuary—a patient who was declared dead on arrival last Wednesday. The individual was initially unidentified but has since been traced to a family in KwaZulu-Natal.
The department assured that arrangements have been made for the body to be transferred to forensic services on Monday.
