ZULO Serves Up Love, Nostalgia, and Culture in New Eight-Track Project ‘Something Lekker’
South African artist ZULO has officially released his highly anticipated eight-track project, Something Lekker.
Rooted deeply in South African identity, heritage, and the multi-dimensional journey of love, the project seamlessly blends elements of hip-hop, pop, and R&B to deliver a warm, playful, and nostalgic sonic experience.
At its core, Something Lekker tracks the evolution of maturity in romance—navigating the phases of searching, choosing, enduring, and ultimately celebrating love.
The foundations for this musical exploration began two years ago with the release of the single “lamza”.
This sonic blueprint has now expanded into a full eight-track body of work, spearheaded by the lead single “meddie,” which dropped on 16 October 2026 alongside a hit music video.
“Meddie” has already established a strong presence on local airwaves, climbing into the Top 20 of the Radiomonitor charts.
Capitalising on this momentum, ZULO is accompanying the project’s launch with the premiere of a brand-new music video for the track “brown,” adding another visual layer to the Something Lekker universe.
Reflecting on the deeper meaning behind the project, ZULO shares: “Something Lekker is our stories. It’s love through the lens of every South African. There’s a lotta sweetness to this new music. It’s meant to feel good, feel nostalgic, feel real close to home. I hope people just get a good time out of it, maybe a vocal stim or two, something you can’t get out of your head, and hopefully some sort of education on our cultures.”
The project cleverly weaves cultural touchstones into its romantic themes, using local symbols like the familiar comfort of a Cape Malay koeksister as a metaphor for the sweetness of love and the safety of home.
This sense of yearning and heritage is also mirrored in the project’s cover art, which depicts a table set for two with one empty chair—perfectly capturing the hope, vulnerability, and anticipation of waiting for love to arrive.
Unmistakably South African, Something Lekker stands out as a feel-good celebration of shared stories, music, and romance.
