SAPS participates in “engangeni ngesango iyofohla” summit on undocumented foreign nationals in Kwazulu-Natal
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Phumelele Makoba, Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Vukani Mgobhozi, Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Crime Detection, Major General Anthony Gopaul, District Commissioners, and other senior managers are representing the South African Police Service during the Engangeni Ngesango Iyafohla Summit on undocumented foreign nationals convened by the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Thami Ntuli, at the Coastlands Hotel in Musgrave, Durban, on Thursday morning.
The session is looking at legal loopholes and other factors that contribute to illegal migration challenges in the province and the country at large.
SAPS officers are at the forefront of enforcing immigration laws, working closely with other law enforcement agencies and relevant government departments, especially the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Employment and Labour.
Civil organisations such as March and March, represented by Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, and social activist Nkosiikhona ‘Phakhel’umthakhathi’ Ndabandaba are present at the summit.
Representatives from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malawi, and Mozambique form part of the panel members and presented the positions of their respective countries on illegal immigration.
Police took the opportunity to continue stakeholder engagements with several entities to forge a united front against criminality and any form of violence, reiterating law enforcement’s state of readiness to maintain stability, peace, and order before, during, and after the planned marches on 30 June 2026.
