Aldrin Sampear returns to Newzroom Afrika after road rage controversy
Newzroom Afrika anchor Aldrin Sampear made his return to television screens today, nearly a month after a viral road rage incident that led to his indefinite suspension.
The altercation, which occurred on April 17, 2025, in Randburg, Johannesburg, involved Sampear and a female motorist, resulting in assault charges and widespread public scrutiny after a video of the incident circulated online.
Sampear issued a public apology, stating, “On April 17, I was involved in a traffic incident that led to a confrontation between myself and another driver. After taking time to reflect on these events, I want to take full responsibility for my actions. While I did not assault the other driver, I acknowledge that I should have remained more composed and found a way to de-escalate the situation. I fell short of the standards I hold myself to.”
“For this, I want to express my regret and offer my sincere apologies to our viewers, my colleagues here at Newzroom Afrika, and the management team who have worked diligently to understand the experience and its root causes.”
“I hope that, through my actions moving forward, I can rebuild the trust and confidence that has been placed in me as I continue on this journey of growth and accountability.”
“And to all the little ones out there watching I want to say, Uncle Aldrin is really, really sorry. I’m truly sorry, and I hope you’ll be able to forgive me”
The apology, shared by Newzroom Afrika on X, followed an internal review by the network, which paved the way for his reinstatement.
However, the apology has sparked mixed reactions. While some viewers welcomed Sampear’s return, others criticized him for not directly addressing the motorist involved, fueling ongoing debates on social media.
Newzroom Afrika has not released further details about the review process or conditions of Sampear’s return.
