Mugabe’s Son Bellarmine Chatunga Arrested After Assaulting Anti-Corruption Officer

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the son of the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, is one of five men arrested today following the alleged assault of an investigator from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

The incident occurred during a ZACC operation aimed at seizing two high-end luxury vehicles—a Lamborghini Urus and a Mercedes-Benz—which are suspected of being illegally smuggled into Zimbabwe from South Africa.

According to local reports and statement releases, ZACC officials tracking the luxury cars located them at a property in Newlands, Harare.

During the asset recovery operation, a physical confrontation ensued when suspects allegedly attacked the investigating team.

The assault was immediately reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) at Highlands Police Station, where Mugabe and four other co-accused individuals are currently being held.

The vehicle confiscation is part of an intensified asset recovery and anti-corruption drive orchestrated by Zimbabwean authorities to reclaim properties suspected to be proceeds of crime.

ZACC spokesperson Simiso Mlevu confirmed the arrest and the seizure of the vehicles, noting that official investigations into the assault and smuggling scheme remain active.

This incident marks another chapter in the growing list of legal troubles for the former president’s youngest son, who has previously faced separate charges across both South Africa and Zimbabwe relating to violence, drugs, and attempted murder.
