Joe “Ferrari” Confirms WhatsApp Communication with General Mkhwanazi
Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni has confirmed WhatsApp communication involving General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi
while insisting that the contact related to legitimate taxi-industry peace talks and conflict resolution.
Addressing CJC 491, Sibanyoni said his interaction with Mkhwanazi was initiated and facilitated through
Sgt Nkosi.
He said meetings and communications involving Mkhwanazi occurred in the context of KZN peace talks,
preparations and taxi-industry discussions, and argued that a screenshot should not be treated as proof of
an ongoing independent relationship beyond those specific circumstances
Elsewhere in the statement, Sibanyoni described Sgt Nkosi as a social acquaintance and “a mover and a
shaker”, acknowledging approximately 12 home visits which he characterised as social. He also said
WhatsApp evidence showed Nkosi contacting Mkhwanazi to request NIU assistance connected with
Sibanyoni’s meeting with Mandla Gcaba Senior.
Sibanyoni invoked constitutional protection against self-incrimination in relation to aspects of the material.
