Deadline Approaching: Switch Your Gold SASSA Card to the New Black Postbank Card by 31 August
SASSA grant beneficiaries still using the old gold card must replace it with the new black Postbank card before 31 August, or it will stop working. The card swap is completely free. They said that you only need a valid South African green barcoded ID book, smart ID card, or a valid temporary ID. No forms are required, and no payment is necessary. They said if you are still using the old gold SASSA card, you have until Sunday, 31 August, to swap it for the new black Postbank card. After this date, your old card will cease to operate.
The government confirmed this deadline during a recent media briefing following a Cabinet meeting. Officials emphasized that this is not a new grant application, and beneficiaries will not lose their social grants. They said funds will continue to be deposited into beneficiaries’ accounts as usual. However, if you fail to change your card on time, you will not be able to withdraw or use your money because the old card will no longer work at ATMs or retail stores.
The card exchange process is free of charge. Beneficiaries only need to present their valid South African identity document or official temporary ID. No application forms need to be filled out, and no fee should be paid. If anyone demands money to exchange your card, do not pay them and report the incident immediately.
Cards can be swapped at designated Postbank points, including dedicated desks inside major supermarkets such as Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, and Pick n Pay. To find a replacement venue closest to you, dial 120355# on your mobile phone and follow the prompts.
Beneficiaries do not need to return to the specific SASSA office where they originally applied for their grant; the card swap can be done anywhere across the country.
