Businessman Nkululeko Khanyi returns to host annual campaign
KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) businessman, depression survivor, and two-time suicide survivor Nkululeko Khanyi is returning to host his annual Ungazibulali Campaign.
This vital initiative offers support and intervention for individuals struggling with suicidal ideation.
Khanyi is an award-winning television host and international speaker who has earned accolades across Africa and Europe for his mental health advocacy.
Khanyi is launching a major conference in Johannesburg on 25 July 2026, specifically tailored for men and young boys. He noted that males frequently suppress their struggles, a tendency that often leads to severe depression.
According to Khanyi, approximately 83,000 people in South Africa have lost their lives to suicide since the beginning of 2026, with men and young boys accounting for 95% of those deaths.
“I am a depression and suicide survivor, and I am deeply passionate about contributing to our society regarding mental health,” Khanyi stated.
“The Ungazibulali Ndoda (Men, Do Not Commit Suicide) Conference will bring together stakeholders, faith-based organisations, traditional healers, psychologists, social workers, victims, suicide survivors, government officials, and the broader community from all over South Africa.”
Khanyi has dedicated 14 years to this cause, motivated by his personal journey and the alarming number of men dying in silence. “South Africa ranks second globally in suicide rates; this is a true pandemic,” he warned.
The Johannesburg event marks the official start of a national tour.
The campaign features a strong lineup of popular Gospel and Maskandi artists who are lending their voices to the cause, including:Limit Nala, Stability, Mkhulekelwa, Teboho Moloi, Khaya Sibanyoni, Dr Buselaphi and Ray Ndosi
