Tragedy Strikes as Former SABC Presenter Owen Ndlovu Found Dead After Kidnapping
The Ndlovu family has officially confirmed the tragic passing of former SABC Sport presenter and music rights activist Owen Ndlovu, whose body was discovered on Wednesday morning, September 16, 2026.
Ndlovu went missing on Tuesday evening following an alleged armed hijacking and kidnapping incident in Katlehong, Gauteng.
According to police reports, three men accosted Ndlovu as he was picking up his wife, Portia Ndlovu, from a local church service.
The suspects forced him into his vehicle before fleeing the scene. While his vehicle was later recovered abandoned, a frantic search for the broadcaster ensued.
The search ended in heartbreak when local residents in Thokoza discovered Ndlovu’s body on Wednesday morning.
A statement released by family spokesperson Eugene Mthethwa revealed that Ndlovu had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
His personal bag was found discarded a few metres away from his body.
His wife, Portia, later visited the local mortuary where she positively identified his body.
“At this stage, the family is awaiting further information from the relevant authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding Owen’s death,” Mthethwa stated in the official release.
The family extended their profound gratitude to the community members who located him, the public who aided in the search, and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
They have requested privacy from both the media and the public during this devastating time.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the abduction and subsequent murder, and no arrests have been announced yet.
