USM Alger stun Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 to win the 2026 CAF Super Cup

USM Alger have been crowned 2026 CAF Super Cup champions after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.

The Algerian side, winners of last season’s CAF Confederation Cup, struck early through Zakaria Draoui in the 4th minute.

Sundowns equalised from the penalty spot in the 25th minute through Iqraam Rayners after a VAR-awarded spot-kick for a handball.

Saâdi Radouani restored USM Alger’s lead on 36 minutes with a header from a rebound off the woodwork, and Ahmed Khaldi made it 3-1 in the 55th minute.

Sundowns, the reigning CAF Champions League winners, were unable to mount a successful comeback despite substitutions that included Themba Zwane and Fawaaz Basadien.

The defeat means the Brazilians fall short in their bid for a third trophy of the season, having already lifted the MTN8 and the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup.

USM Alger, who previously won the Super Cup in 2023, become two-time winners of the competition. The result ends Sundowns’ hopes of adding the continental Super Cup to their cabinet on home soil.

Full-time: Mamelodi Sundowns 1-3 USM Alger

Scorers: Rayners (pen, 25′); Draoui (4′), Radouani (36′), Khaldi (55′)
