Carling KO Blockbuster Semi-Final: Sundowns Drawn Against Chiefs
The Carling Knockout Cup semi-final draw has delivered a mouth-watering clash between two of South Africa’s biggest clubs.
Mamelodi Sundowns will face Kaizer Chiefs, while defending champions Orlando Pirates take on Stellenbosch FC.
Unlike earlier rounds, the draw was not seeded, and that is why the giants have been drawn against each other.
Both Sundowns and Chiefs are still licking their wounds after continental disappointment. Sundowns were knocked out of the Champions League and lost the CAF Super Cup, while Chiefs went out of the Confederation Cup.
But at least one of them will reach the Carling Knockout Cup final. Sundowns reached the semi-final by beating Golden Arrows.
Chiefs beat Siwelele FC 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Peter Mokaba Stadium through Wandile Duba and Asanele Velebayi’s goals.
Pirates are chasing back-to-back titles after beating Sekhukhune 1-0 in the quarter finals on Saturday. Gavin Hunt’s Stellenbosch, the 2023 champions, will want to upset them.
Stellies beat AmaZulu 2-1 with a last minute goal deciding the match on Sunday night. The PSL will announce match venues, times and other details in due course.
