Kwinika avoids Chiefs speculation as title pressure mounts
Kaizer Chiefs vice-captain Zitha Kwinika has made it clear that his focus remains on delivering results on the pitch rather than getting involved in discussions surrounding the club’s internal decisions.
Kwinika was speaking after football manager Bobby Motaung stated that winning the Betway Premiership is the club’s primary mandate this season.
Chiefs have not won the league since the 2014/15 campaign under Stuart Baxter, while their only major domestic trophy in the past decade came with the Nedbank Cup triumph in the 2024/25 season.
Having experienced both successes, Kwinika understands the expectations at Naturena. However, he says he will not comment on conversations he has not been involved in.
“I don’t comment on things I haven’t heard, or, to be honest with you, it’s new to me in that conversation,” Kwinika said.
He added that his discussions with the technical team are focused on producing results.
“My conversations with the coaches are clear: we need to get the results we require or deserve for the team, for us to say we’re doing our job properly,” he adds.
Chiefs currently have eight points from four league matches and face Siwelele at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday at 5.30pm.
Kwinika believes victory could provide the confidence needed to build momentum.
“I think mainly winning the game will give us a bit of confidence going forward, and then we continue from where we are and where we want to go to,” he said.
Chiefs will also be determined to finally beat Siwelele after failing to win either meeting between the sides last season.
