ActionSA eThekwini Council Candidate Facing Assault Charges Following Incident with Durban Broadcaster

Nhlanhla “The Big Man” Mqadi, an ActionSA ward council candidate and prominent community activist in the eThekwini Municipality, is facing serious legal trouble after being arrested for the alleged assault of a well-known Durban radio broadcaster.

Mqadi, 51, was arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS) after a criminal case was opened against him by Bongekile “Bee” Mkhwanazi, a broadcaster and former advertising executive at local radio station Vibe 94.7 FM.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo, the arrest was processed at the Durban Central police station. Mqadi faces a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).

The charges stem from a physical altercation that reportedly took place along Walnut Road in the Durban Central Business District.

Mqadi, who is well known locally as an organizer for the March and March movement, is currently campaigning under the ActionSA banner for the upcoming local government elections.

The political party has not yet issued an official statement regarding the future of his candidacy or whether disciplinary procedures will be initiated following the court appearance.

The case has been remanded, and further updates are expected as legal proceedings continue in the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
