ANC NEC member Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has filed an opposing affidavit in the Johannesburg High Court against Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula.

The case follows her podcast claim that Mbalula “dished out money” at the 2022 Nasrec conference to win the secretary-general post and help Cyril Ramaphosa stay president. Mbalula denies this and is suing for defamation.

Dlamini-Zuma says the lawsuit is an abuse of court process. She argues money in ANC contests is an internal party issue and that its misuse is central to the ANC’s decline. Hearings are expected later this month.
