FORMER TRAFFIC OFFICER SENTENCED FOR CORRUPTION

The Bellville Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Western Cape sentenced Elvis Frank Nontyi(55) on 04 September 2026 on six counts of corruption after he pleaded guilty. Notyi, who is a former Senior Superintendent, was employed at Driver’s License and Testing Centre by Stellenbosch Municipality.

He was sentenced to six years imprisonment of which three years was suspended for a period of five years.

The accused was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The accused had access to the National Traffic Information System (NaTIS) . He was authorized to test applicants for learners and driver’s licenses including the issuing thereof.

Between 17 March and 19 July 2022, the accused issued learners and/or drivers licenses to applicants in exchange for money, which was paid in cash to him by the applicants to the total amount of R5 550.00.
