Peet Viljoen’s bid to have 400-charge case struck from roll dismissed
The Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court has dismissed an application by disbarred attorney and television personality Peet Viljoen’s to have his criminal case struck from the court roll.
The matter has been postponed to 30 October, after Viljoen’s defence argued that the State had not provided a final charge sheet, leaving him without clarity on when the trial could proceed.
Viljoen remains in custody at Kgosi Mampuru II Prison. He faces about 400 charges, including fraud, theft, forgery, uttering and corruption, arising from allegations that 46 properties belonging to the Johannesburg Property Company were unlawfully sold in 2010. The properties were allegedly valued at about R27.6 million.
Viljoen was arrested by the Hawks on 16 June 2026 after being deported from the United States, where he had been detained for about 100 days. His bail application was later dismissed, with the court finding that he posed a flight risk.
The case against Viljoen forms part of a wider investigation into the alleged fraudulent disposal of municipal properties, with several other accused also facing charges.
