Etiosa Ighodaro Makes Bold Chiefs Promise After Injury Nightmare
Kaizer Chiefs striker Etiosa Ighodaro has sent a strong message to the Amakhosi faithful, declaring that his frustrating injury problems are now behind him as he targets a breakthrough season at Naturena.
The 25-year-old Nigerian forward endured a difficult first campaign in the famous Gold and Black, with injuries severely restricting his opportunities.
Chiefs’ official account says he made just six appearances last season, while other reports have him at seven appearances across competitions.
But Ighodaro insists supporters are yet to see the best of him.
“Last season was quite frustrating for me because of injuries, but that is behind me now and I am looking forward to a great season. Hopefully, you’ll see the best of me,” he said.
The powerful striker believes a full pre-season has made a major difference, particularly after spending so much of his debut campaign on the sidelines.
“I really benefitted from pre-season because I didn’t play a lot last season, so I needed the minutes in the practice games to build my confidence,” he added.
Now, Ighodaro is determined to repay the faith of the Chiefs supporters by finding the back of the net and becoming a key figure in the attack.
His immediate opportunity comes against Siwelele at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday, 6 September.
Chiefs enter the clash unbeaten after four league matches, sitting third with eight points, but will be desperate to return to winning ways after being held to a 2-2 draw by Richards Bay.
Ighodaro expects a physical battle but insists Chiefs are ready. “We believe in ourselves and our own ability to come out on top,” he said.
And despite the pressure surrounding Amakhosi, his message is clear: the focus is on winning the next game and finally unleashing the best version of Etiosa Ighodaro.
