Orlando Pirates Thrash Sekhukhune 3-0 to Reach Fifth Straight MTN8 Final

Orlando Pirates Crush Sekhukhune United to Reach Fifth Straight MTN8 Final

Orlando Pirates delivered another emphatic statement on Saturday, dismantling Sekhukhune United 3-0 at Orlando (Amstel) Arena to book their place in the MTN8 final for an unprecedented fifth consecutive season.

The Buccaneers entered the second leg with a 1-0 advantage from the first meeting. They left little doubt about the outcome, winning the tie 4-0 on aggregate after another dominant performance.

Pirates controlled the contest from the opening whistle, forcing Sekhukhune to spend long periods defending deep and struggling to create meaningful opportunities.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 36th minute.

Thapelo Mokobodi found the back of the net with a composed finish to put Pirates ahead and further increase the pressure on the visitors.

Four minutes later, the game was effectively slipping away from Sekhukhune.

Gamphani Lungu reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the box and fired home to give the Buccaneers a 2-0 lead before half-time.

Sekhukhune were suddenly facing a mountain to climb. The defeat also came only days after Pirates had beaten them in the league, adding another painful chapter to what had become a difficult week for the side.

Pirates Refuse to Relent

Rather than easing off after the interval, Pirates maintained control.

Sekhukhune needed an extraordinary comeback to overturn the deficit, but the Buccaneers continued to dictate the tempo and kept their opponents under pressure.

Their reward came when Kamogelo Sebelebele added a third goal, putting the result beyond doubt and sending the home crowd into celebration.

The final whistle confirmed another convincing Pirates victory.

More significantly, it completed a remarkable hat-trick of wins over Sekhukhune in the space of one week.

Fifth Consecutive MTN8 Final

The victory has secured Pirates an unprecedented fifth consecutive appearance in the MTN8 final.

It is another significant milestone for Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side, who continue to establish themselves as a dominant force in the competition.

Pirates will now wait to discover their opponents in the final.

They will face either Mamelodi Sundowns or Stellenbosch, depending on the outcome of the other semi-final.

For Sekhukhune, meanwhile, the defeat brings a difficult week to an emphatic end.

For Pirates, the message is altogether different. They are back in the MTN8 final, and once again they are within touching distance of another major trophy.
