A 41-year-old man is behind bars following the brutal murder of a 40-year-old woman in Duvha Park, Witbank, on Friday morning.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) launched a swift investigation after being called to a local residence at approximately 07:20 on Friday, 30 October 2026.

Upon arrival, emergency responders and police discovered the lifeless body of the female victim inside a room, bearing multiple stab wounds to her upper body.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as a male friend of the deceased, was spotted entering the home earlier that morning.

Following a localized manhunt by Witbank detectives, the suspect was tracked down and arrested in the same area during the early hours of Saturday morning, 31 October 2026.

The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, highly commended the investigating team for their rapid response and dedication.

Modise stressed that Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) continue to be a top priority for law enforcement, warning that perpetrators of crimes against women and children will face the full might of the law.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to make his first appearance in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 November 2026, where he will face a formal charge of murder.
