Tshwane Metro sergeant to make first appearance at the Polokwane Magistrate court for alleged R1.75 million estate fraud on Monday
A Tshwane Metro Police Department sergeant has been arrested in connection with an alleged R1.75 million fraud and money-laundering scheme involving funds belonging to a deceased estate.
The sergeant, who is accused number two in the matter, was arrested by members of the Limpopo Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team on Friday, 14 August 2026, in Sunnyside, Pretoria.
According to the investigation, the alleged offences date back to 28 October 2024, when accused number one, a lawyer by profession and wife of the accused, allegedly unlawfully transferred funds from a trust account linked to an estate bank account of the late Mr Masha’s estate at FNB.
On the same day, two payments totalling R1.75 million were allegedly made from the estate’s funds into the Standard Bank account of McCarthy Mercedes-Benz Wonderboom.
The payments amounted to R1.65 million and R100,000.00 respectively and were reportedly linked to the purchase of a pre-owned Mercedes-Benz AMG G63.
Investigators allegedly discovered that the names of the intended purchasers did not correspond with the details contained in the deceased estate’s records, raising suspicion about the transactions.
It is alleged that the two accused acted with a common purpose to acquire the luxury vehicle using funds belonging to the estate and its lawful beneficiaries.
Further investigations allegedly established that accused number one authorised and effected a payment of R1.65 million directly from the estate’s bank account to the Mercedes-Benz dealership.
The Hawks further alleged that approximately R1.75 million was unlawfully withdrawn from the estate and that portions of the allegedly defrauded money were subsequently deposited into the bank account of accused number two.
The funds were allegedly laundered through the account of the accused to the prejudice of the estate and its lawful beneficiaries.
Following the completion of the investigation, the docket was submitted to the State Advocate for a decision on prosecution.
Warrants of arrest were subsequently issued against the accused.
Accused number two was arrested in Pretoria on Friday and is expected to make his first appearance at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 August 2026.
Meanwhile, accused number one remains at large. The Hawks say she is being traced and has not yet been apprehended.
The accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
