KZN Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane accused of arrogance over hospital service complaint

US-based academic Dr Sipho Sithole, originally from Umsinga in the Midlands of KZN has expressed deep outrage over the MEC’s dismissive response to a complaint about negligent service at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital.

KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane is facing heavy criticism following allegations of arrogance and deflection regarding public healthcare failures.

US-based academic Dr Sipho Sithole, originally from Umsinga in the Midlands of KZN has expressed deep outrage over the MEC’s dismissive response to a complaint about negligent service at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital.

The dispute stems from an incident involving Sithole’s nephew, who visited the medical facility on Wednesday and was instructed by a doctor to return on Friday for a follow-up.

However, upon his arrival on Friday, hospital staff informed the patient that his medical file had been lost—just 48 hours after it was opened.

As a result of the missing paperwork, the patient was turned away without receiving medical attention.

Seeking immediate intervention, Sithole reached out directly to MEC Simelane via WhatsApp to report the hospital’s administrative failure.

Instead of addressing the grievance, the MEC reportedly distanced herself from the issue, replying that such operational matters must be handled by the Head of Department (HOD).Speaking in an exclusive interview with local outlet in KZN, a furious Sithole slammed the MEC’s conduct, stating that her dismissive attitude reflects sheer arrogance and a lack of accountability to the public.

Efforts to reach MEC Nomagugu Simelane for an official comment on the matter are currently ongoing.
