Maseko sparks concern with emotional social media post
Out-of-favour Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thapelo Maseko has left fans concerned after sharing an emotional message on social media amid uncertainty over his future.
It recently emerged that Sundowns are prepared to let the Bafana Bafana international leave, but only if he joins a club outside South Africa. The club is reportedly unwilling to strengthen its Betway Premiership rivals by selling him locally. After reports of the club’s stance surfaced, Maseko posted on his Instagram story: “It must be a prank.”
A source close to the situation claimed the post was a reaction to Sundowns’ reported preference to sell him abroad.
“He was referring to Sundowns’ decision not to sell him locally. They want him to move outside South Africa, including to South America, where he does not want to go,” the source said. Maseko later shared a lengthy and emotional message that has raised further concern among supporters.
“I don’t even know when it started, but lately it’s like the fire in me is fading,” he wrote.
“I still train like my life depends on it… but inside it feels empty. The game that once lit up my soul now feels different, heavier and colder.“
The winger added that despite continuing to work hard, he feels unseen and has watched his confidence and love for the game slowly disappear.
“The hunger, the excitement and the love for the grind have all been slipping away piece by piece. Now hope feels far away, and I’m left wondering if I’ll ever get back to that place again.”
