Man sentenced to five years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a child
The Kimberley Sexual Offences Court in Northern Cape convicted and sentenced Monaoule Rantsi (30) for sexually assaulting the 15-year-old daughter of his girlfriend.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to five years’ direct imprisonment.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane said the court further declared him unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his particulars be entered into both the National Register for Sex Offenders and the National Child Protection Register.
“The offence occurred on 11 December 2025 in Homestead, Kimberley. At the time, the accused was the victim’s mother’s boyfriend and resided in the same household as the victim. He sexually assaulted the child by inappropriately touching her buttocks while she was lying under blankets.
“During sentencing, the court emphasised that every child should feel safe in their own home. It found that the accused had abused the position of trust placed in him as a member of the household and someone regarded as part of the family,” said Senokoatsane.
He said the court also took into account the accused’s criminal history.
“He is not a first-time offender and has previous convictions for escaping from lawful custody (2011), assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (2013), robbery (2018), and robbery with aggravating circumstances. In the latter matter, he was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by the Kimberley Regional Court on 07 July 2026.”
“The court further noted that the sexual assault was committed while the accused was on bail for the robbery with aggravating circumstances case,” he said.
