E.tv’s The Four of Us Launches on Netflix in Landmark South African Content Deal

Netflix partnership

South African television is entering a new chapter after eMedia and Netflix announced a landmark partnership that will see locally produced content reach audiences across Africa through one of the world’s biggest streaming platforms.

Leading the rollout is e.tv’s newly launched drama series, The Four of Us, which will be available on Netflix immediately after each episode airs on the free to air broadcaster. The agreement marks one of the most significant collaborations between a South African broadcaster and a global streaming service in recent years.

The move is expected to give local productions greater exposure while introducing South African storytelling to millions of viewers beyond the country’s borders.

According to eMedia, the partnership will begin with The Four of Us, with additional locally produced titles expected to follow in the coming months. Selected e.tv programmes will also be distributed across various African countries through Netflix, expanding the reach of South African entertainment.

Marlon Davids, Managing Director of Channels at eMedia, described the agreement as a defining moment for the broadcaster.

“Working with Netflix allows us to take our diverse content wherever we want it to go. As we continue to introduce free to view local shows that resonate with audiences, it demonstrates our forward momentum as a broadcaster,” Davids said.

Produced by Tshedza Pictures, The Four of Us follows the lives of the Dhlomo family as four siblings confront personal struggles, fractured relationships and life changing decisions. The drama features an acclaimed cast, including Sindi Dlathu, Sdumo Mtshali and Thembinkosi Mthembu, whose performances have already attracted strong interest from viewers.

Netflix believes the partnership reflects a growing demand for authentic South African stories on the global stage.

Ben Amadasun, representing Netflix, said the agreement signals an exciting new chapter for the streaming platform as it continues investing in high quality local productions.

“As we celebrate 10 years of broadcasting in South Africa, we believe e.tv shares our vision and passion for local stories, not only for audiences at home but across borders. This partnership will also benefit future generations working in the television industry,” Amadasun said.

The collaboration comes as streaming platforms increasingly compete for compelling African content, with South African productions continuing to attract international attention for their quality, authenticity and cultural relevance.

For viewers, the new arrangement offers greater flexibility, allowing audiences to watch episodes on traditional television before catching up on Netflix shortly afterwards.

New episodes of The Four of Us premiere on e.tv at 8:00 pm, before becoming available on Netflix under the new partnership.

The agreement is more than a distribution deal. It signals growing confidence in South Africa’s creative industry and opens the door for more local productions to find audiences far beyond the country’s borders. If successful, it could reshape how South African television is produced, distributed and experienced across the continent.
