Three Suspects Arrested In Braamfontein After Stolen Toyota Vitz And Signal Jammer Recovered
Three men have been arrested in Braamfontein after Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit (TRU) officers recovered a stolen Toyota Vitz and a signal-jamming device.
The officers were on patrol along Smith Street when they conducted a vehicle status check through their reaction channel. The Toyota Vitz was flagged as stolen and linked to a case opened at Protea SAPS.
The officers stopped the vehicle, which was occupied by three men, at the intersection of Smith and Rissik streets.
According to JMPD, the driver allegedly admitted to being involved in vehicle theft during questioning.
A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a signal-jamming device and a different registration plate.
All three suspects were arrested and detained at Hillbrow SAPS. The recovered Toyota Vitz was booked into the Aeroton SAPS Pound for further investigation.
Signal-jamming devices can be used by criminals to interfere with vehicle tracking systems, making it more difficult for owners and recovery teams to locate stolen vehicles.
The latest arrests form part of ongoing JMPD TRU operations targeting vehicle-related crime in Johannesburg’s inner city.
The suspects are expected to face charges related to the stolen vehicle and items recovered during the operation.
