Nigeria Security Crackdown Nets 46 Undocumented Foreign Nationals in Ogun State Raids
A sweeping security operation in Nigeria’s Ogun State has led to the arrest of 46 suspected undocumented foreign nationals, highlighting growing concerns over illegal migration and internal security in one of the country’s busiest regions.
The coordinated operation, carried out by troops from the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army alongside officials from the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), unfolded across several communities following intelligence reports about suspicious activities in the area.
Authorities descended on Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese and neighbouring communities during the raids, resulting in the apprehension of dozens of individuals believed to be residing in Nigeria without valid immigration documentation.
Among those arrested were 36 men and 10 women.
According to Nigerian authorities, the group comprised 18 nationals from Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo and one Senegalese national.
Intelligence-Led Operation
The arrests were confirmed by Major Idereghi Akari, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 35 Artillery Brigade. He said the operation was conducted last Thursday after security agencies received credible intelligence that prompted a coordinated response.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that the suspects had been living in Ogun State for approximately six months without the required immigration documents.
During questioning, the individuals allegedly told investigators that they were traders and workers associated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various products.
Immigration Authorities Take Over Investigation
Following their arrest, all 46 suspects were handed over to the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and possible administrative action under Nigerian immigration laws.
The case is expected to undergo further scrutiny as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the group’s presence in the country.
Security Agencies Praised
Brigadier-General Friday Onu, Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, praised the cooperation between the various security agencies involved in the operation.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities, describing public cooperation as a crucial component in efforts to strengthen national security.
The latest arrests form part of ongoing operations by Nigerian authorities aimed at tackling illegal migration, enforcing immigration regulations and enhancing internal security across the country.
As investigations continue, officials say the operation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to addressing undocumented migration while maintaining vigilance against potential security threats.
