The ANC has opened the process for public nominations of mayoral candidates ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
The announcement was made through a statement on social media on Thursday evening ( 21 May 2026)
Public nomination comes in the spirit of the Freedom Charter that “The People Shall Govern.”
All South African citizens and ANC members are invited to nominate ANC mayoral candidates
In order for one to qualify, you must acquire the following:
* Proven capacity to drive service delivery, accountable governance, and local developments
* Ability to manage a large budget oversight track record
* Possess Executive/ Senior Management experience preferred
* Qualifications in NQF 7 ( Bachelor’s), NQF 8 ( Honors/ PG Diploma)
* Administration, Public Finance, Law, Engineering, Town Planning, or related fields.
Candidates must be South African citizens above 25 years of age and possess the following knowledge:
* Knowledge and experience working with the command of MFMA, Section 56, MSA, MPRA, Section 71/72 reporting
* Code of conduct for councilors
* Minimum of 10 years professional experience or at least 5 years in a senior management role ( Director, HOD, GM, MMC, MM, DG) equivalent
Those with pending criminal cases are prohibited from applying.
The final cut-off for this intake is midnight on Friday, 22 May 2026
