Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor “16V” Khumalo has opened up about his son Diego’s football journey — and revealed why he refuses to interfere too much in the youngster’s career.
Diego is hoping to continue the famous Khumalo football legacy after both his father and grandfather, Eliakim “Pro” Khumalo, became icons of South African football.
But despite fully supporting his son, the doctor says Diego must become his “own man” and make his own decisions in football.
Speaking after receiving an honorary doctorate from Tshwane University of Technology recently, the Bafana Bafana legend admitted that watching his son chase the same dream has not been easy.
“I can’t tell him what to do; he must choose his own career,” said the doctor.
The Amakhosi legend also revealed that, just like his father did with him, he has handed Diego over to academy coaches instead of personally training him.
However, the doctor warned that discipline remains non-negotiable.
“If he does something wrong, I reprimand him,” he said.
He also advised his son to stay away from bad influences and focus on becoming successful both on and off the field.
The Khumalo football dynasty may continue — but Doctor wants Diego to create his own story.
