A robbery suspect attempting to sexually assault a woman fled after her four-year-old son began crying uncontrollably during a home invasion in Amaoti, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) officers responded to reports of a break-in and attempted rape in an area known as Namibia at approximately 04h57.
A male resident told officers that three armed men had tried to break into his home by smashing the windows. When they failed to remove the burglar bars, they moved to a neighboring house, where they kicked down the front door.
The suspects robbed a woman of her Itel cellphone and R350 in cash. One of the men then attempted to sexually assault her but fled when her young child began crying uncontrollably.
