Hitman Arrested for Murder of Former Knysna Mayor Aubrey Tsengwa
In a major breakthrough, the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has arrested a 44-year-old alleged hitman in connection with the assassination of former Knysna Executive Mayor Aubrey Tsengwa.
The breakthrough comes after an intensive, intelligence-driven investigation that tracked the suspect across provincial borders. Members of the specialized task team executed a coordinated takedown operation on Friday, 6 November 2026, in the town of Peddie, located in the Eastern Cape.
Tsengwa was brutally gunned down on 19 August 2026, while seated in his stationary vehicle in Knysna. Three other occupants who were in the car with him at the time managed to survive the attack.
The suspect remains in police custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance in the Knysna Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 9 November 2026.
He faces one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder. Investigations continue as authorities determine if more suspects were involved in orchestrating the hit.
