ACTIONSA ENGAGES ANC ON COALITION TALKS, DA NOT INCLUDED IN FIRST ROUND OF DISCUSSIONS
GAUTENG: ActionSA has held its first engagement with the African National Congress (ANC) as political parties begin exploring possible coalition arrangements following the 2026 Local Government Elections.
In a statement, ActionSA described the meeting as productive and mutually respectful, saying discussions focused on the principles required to establish stable and effective coalition governments.
The party indicated that it remains committed to engaging with all political parties in an effort to find common ground on coalition governance.
However, the Democratic Alliance (DA) was notably absent from this first round of discussions, with ActionSA confirming its engagement with the ANC but not announcing a similar meeting with the DA.
The development raises questions about the possible political realignments emerging from the election results, particularly as parties consider partnerships that could determine who governs several hung municipalities.
ActionSA has not indicated whether further engagements with the DA are scheduled.
The party’s willingness to engage the ANC also signals its openness to exploring coalition arrangements beyond traditional political alliances, with stability, accountability and effective service delivery expected to remain key considerations.
Further engagements between political parties are expected as negotiations over coalition governments continue.
The Independent Electoral Commission ( IEC) will make an announcement of the Local Government Elections results this evening.
