Suliman Carrim Ordered to Contact Madlanga Commission Within 48 Hours to Arrange Next Appearance
North West businessman Suliman Carrim’s legal representative has been ordered to contact the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry within 48 hours of his release from custody to arrange his next appearance before the inquiry.
The order was issued by the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after Carrim was granted R100 000 bail on a charge of contravening the Commissions Act 8 of 1947 for failing to appear before the commission as required.
Carrim previously testified before the commission on 9 and 10 March 2026 but missed subsequent appearances, citing medical reasons. He was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on 15 October, shortly before he was due to board an international flight.
Magistrate Marc Curlewis granted bail subject to strict conditions, including surrendering his passport, reporting to police every Monday and attending all court proceedings. Carrim may not leave South Africa without the court’s permission.
The court warned that breaching the bail conditions could result in a warrant of arrest and further detention.
The matter was postponed to 8 December 2026 for disclosure of the docket.
Carrim remains in custody pending separate proceedings in the Musina Magistrates’ Court, where he faces charges linked to alleged attempted vehicle theft and related offences.
