Zwane’s clarion call to AmaZulu ahead of Carling Cup opener
AmaZulu are flying in the league, and now Arthur Zwane wants Carling Knockout glory.
Usuthu head to Mbombela Stadium on Saturday for a Round of 16 clash with Kruger United, and they go there with momentum on their side.
Four straight league wins over Richards Bay, Marumo Gallants, Polokwane City and Durban City have lifted AmaZulu to third in the Betway Premiership, with 19 points from eight matches.
Last season’s cup run was a painful one. Usuthu were dumped out at this same stage, losing 3-2 to Magesi, and they will be desperate to go further this time.
Kruger United sit 12th in the league, and this will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides. But Zwane is not fooled by the gap on the log.
“They’ve also been unfortunate not to grab more points in other games, and we will have to be at our best against them as always,” he said.
The warning is clear, AmaZulu may be on a roll, but one slip in a knockout tie could undo it all.
