Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile commended the investigation team who successfully investigated the murder of a 46-year-old business man of Knysna, Mawande Kondlo, whose body was found tied up in bushes in Knysna on 17 January 2022. The investigation team ensured that the suspect who was linked through video footage and DNA, received a life imprisonment sentence on Friday, 04 October 2024, in the Circuit Court in Knysna. Preliminary investigation revealed that on Saturday, 15 January2022, the accused, Waydon Bezuidenhout (32), fetched the deceased, at his home. Two days later the deceased was found in the bushes tied up. With the help of Crime Intelligence, the investigating officer managed to trace the vehicle the accused was driving that weekend. The vehicle was hired from a car hire agency in George. The vehicle was tested and blood was found inside the boot of the vehicle. The accused was then arrested on 25 August 2022 and appeared in the Knysna Magistrates’ court where the bail application was successfully opposed. The accused was charged and tried in the High Court (Knysna Circuit Court) from 19 August 2024 till 04 October 2024 on charges of kidnapping, premediated murder and defeating the ends of justice.
He was found guilty and sentenced to 5 years for kidnapping, life sentence for murder and 12 months for defeating the ends of justice.
