Donald Trump spoke in New Hampshire on Tuesday (1/16/24) following his victory in the Iowa caucus. With 99% of the results in, Trump had 51% of the vote and the largest margin of victory in a competitive GOP race in Iowa history. Following the Iowa caucus results, Vivek Ramaswamy suspended his presidential campaign and endorsed Donald Trump. He joined the former president on the New Hampshire stage and discussed his reasoning for the endorsement. After his speech, members in the crowd could be heard chanting “VP! VP! VP!”
Earlier on Tuesday morning, Trump was in court in Manhattan facing a civil defamation lawsuit. A federal jury was selected to decide how much money he must pay the writer E. Jean Carroll for comments he made in 2019 denying he sexually assaulted her. The former president, fresh off his victory in the Iowa caucuses, arrived in the courtroom in lower Manhattan to attend the opening of the trial. Carroll immediately sat down and looked straight ahead after he walked in. Trump, seated in the third row of the area for attorneys, plaintiffs and defendants, sat directly behind her by two rows. He and Carroll did not appear to look at each other.
Haley and DeSantis are also hosting Tuesday events in New Hampshire as the state’s caucus nears. However, bad weather has caused some events to get cancelled due to poor travel conditions.
