Trio Appears in Durban Court Over Public Violence and Looting Charges; State to Oppose Bail
Three suspects made their initial appearance before the Durban Magistrates’ Court facing a string of serious charges linked to community unrest and lawlessness.
The accused—identified as Wandile Nsibande, Sphelele Shinga (popularly known as “Magolide”), and Malizo Dzanibe—were apprehended following recent disruptive incidents in the area.
According to the prosecution, the trio faces multiple counts, which include inciting public violence, engaging in looting, and being in possession of dangerous weapons in a public space.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that the matter has been temporarily postponed for further investigation and to allow for a formal bail application.
However, the State has explicitly indicated that it will strongly oppose bail for all three individuals, citing the gravity of the offenses and the threat they pose to public safety and social stability.
The suspects will remain in custody until their next scheduled court appearance.
