Lungu breaks silence after Pirates MTN8 heartbreak
Orlando Pirates will have little time to lick their wounds after their MTN8 final heartbreak as they return to Betway Premiership action against TS Galaxy on Tuesday night.
The Buccaneers host Galaxy at the Orlando Amstel Arena at 7.30pm, looking to put their 2-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns behind them.
Pirates surrendered their MTN8 crown at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday after Teboho Mokoena opened the scoring before Iqraam Rayners sealed Sundowns’ victory with a late penalty.
Ghampani Lungu had a golden opportunity to bring Pirates level in the 60th minute, but his penalty was brilliantly saved by Ronwen Williams.
The Zambian winger has since broken his silence on the painful defeat, admitting that Pirates fell short of their target.
“Yesterday wasn’t the outcome we worked for,” Lungu wrote on Instagram.
“We did our best as a team, but we know there’s more we could have done. Football comes with wins and losses, and this is one of those moments to reflect, learn, and come back stronger.”
Lungu also thanked the supporters who sent messages of encouragement.
“To everyone who has reached out with messages of encouragement and support, thank you. Every message is appreciated, and none of the love goes unnoticed.”
“We take the lessons, keep our heads up and continue working.”
