TMPD Officer “Gagash” Nonyane and Attorney Wife Denied Bail in Deceased-Estate Fraud Case
TMPD Constable Peter “Gagash” Nonyane and his wife, attorney Charlotte Tibana, will remain behind bars after the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court dismissed their bail applications.
The married couple faces 43 charges, including fraud, money laundering and theft, arising from allegations that six deceased estates were defrauded.
Their bid for freedom was rejected as the court postponed the matter to 6 November 2026 to allow further investigations to continue.
The case centres on allegations that money was unlawfully diverted from deceased estates, leaving funds intended for the lawful beneficiaries at the heart of the investigation.
According to information presented in the matter, the alleged scheme came to the attention of the Limpopo Hawks after McCarthy Mercedes-Benz Wonderboom in Pretoria reported a suspicious transaction involving the purchase of a Mercedes-AMG G63 valued at approximately R1.65 million.
Investigators are examining how the luxury vehicle was allegedly purchased and whether the money used in the transaction can be linked to funds allegedly taken from the affected estates.
Nonyane, popularly known as “Gagash,” is a constable attached to the Tshwane Metro Police Department, while Tibana is a practising attorney.
The court’s refusal to grant the couple bail means they will remain in custody as the Hawks continue investigating the full extent of the alleged fraud and tracing the movement of the disputed funds.
The matter is expected to return to the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on 6 November 2026.
Nonyane and Tibana have not been convicted of any crime. They remain accused and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
