A targeted drug operation in Eersterust has ended with the arrest of a 35 year old man after Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officers allegedly uncovered a large quantity of suspected drugs and controlled medication.

The operation, carried out by members of the TMPD Drug Unit and K9 Unit on Wednesday, resulted in the seizure of 96 Mandrax tablets and 58 bottles of cough syrup, each containing 100ml, according to the metro police.

The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to disrupt the distribution of illegal substances in communities across the City of Tshwane.

TMPD Officers Conduct Targeted Operation

The suspect was allegedly found in possession of the substances during a focused operation in Eersterust. TMPD officials said the drugs and medication were seized during the intervention, which involved specialised members of the department.

Following the discovery, the man was arrested and taken to a local police station, where he remains in custody.

He is facing charges related to contraventions of the Medicines Act, as well as possession and dealing in suspected drugs.

Authorities Continue Fight Against Drug Related Crime

The TMPD said the arrest forms part of its broader crime prevention strategy aimed at reducing the impact of illegal drugs within communities in Tshwane.

The department praised the officers involved in the operation, saying the successful seizure demonstrated the importance of targeted policing and collaboration between specialised units.

Drug related crimes remain a major concern for communities across South Africa, with law enforcement agencies continuing operations aimed at removing illegal substances from circulation and holding alleged offenders accountable.

The suspect is expected to appear before court as the legal process continues.
