Three illegal firearms recovered in OR Tambo District

OR TAMBO DISTRICT – An intelligence driven operation yielded positive results after an elderly man (75) was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Coffee Bay today.

It is alleged that on Friday morning, 10 May 2024 around 02:00, police in possession of a search warrant, pounced on a house at Magcakeni Locality in Coffee Bay. On searching the premises, police found two home-made shotguns with ammunition and arrested a 75-year-old elderly man for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition (two counts). He is due to appear in court soon on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In a separate incident, on Tuesday, 07 May 2024, during a stop and search operation, Zola Roro (27), was arrested in Bityi for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Roro appeared in court and was remanded in custody.   A case was postponed to Monday, 13 May 2024 for further investigation.
