Kidnapped US Pastor Still Recovering from Ordeal After Rescue in Eastern Cape

An American missionary who was recently freed from a kidnapping ordeal is still recovering from the traumatic experience and did not attend the Easter service at his church in the Eastern Cape.

 

Pastor Josh Sullivan was held captive for nearly a week before being rescued by police on Tuesday. The operation ended in a shootout that resulted in the deaths of three suspects. Sullivan was unharmed but remains emotionally shaken.

His fellow missionary, Brandon Byerly, said the pastor is not yet ready to speak publicly about the incident.

 

“I’ve seen them a few times, but only briefly,” Byerly said. “The family has a story to share, and we want to give them the space and time they need to tell it when they’re ready.”
