Suliman Carrim Fails To Report To Madlanga Commission Within 48 Hours
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has confirmed that North West businessman Suliman Carrim has failed to comply with a bail condition requiring his legal representatives to report to the inquiry within 48 hours to arrange his next appearance.
In a statement on Friday, 30 October 2026, the Commission said Carrim’s attorneys had written to it to draw attention to the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court bail judgment delivered on 28 October.
However, the Commission said the letter did not satisfy the bail condition, which required the attorneys to report in person and make arrangements for Carrim’s next appearance.
“The attorneys have not taken the initiative envisaged in the condition. As a result, Mr Carrim has failed to comply with the bail condition,” the Commission said.
Carrim was granted R100,000 bail on 28 October on a charge under the Commissions Act relating to his failure to complete his testimony before the inquiry.
He appeared briefly in March 2026 but failed to return for subsequent scheduled appearances, citing medical reasons. He also declined an independent medical assessment ordered by the Commission.
He was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on 15 October while preparing to board a flight to Dubai.
His bail conditions include surrendering his passport, reporting to police weekly in Mafikeng and arranging his next appearance before the Commission.
Carrim remains in custody on separate charges in the Musina Magistrate’s Court relating to the alleged attempted theft and cross-border movement of two Absa-financed vehicles using fraudulent documentation.
The former ANC regional treasurer has also been linked in Commission testimony to financial arrangements involving Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and the SAPS health-services contract awarded to his company, Medicare24.
