Media Statement POLOKWANE – Six male suspects, aged between 21 and 47, were nabbed separately for a related incident on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm with ammunition, house robbery, kidnapping, rape and possession of suspected stolen properties, on Monday, 17 February 2025 at Saselamani, Hlanganani and Giyani policing areas, during an intelligence driven operations. Their arrest comes after an incident of house robbery that occurred at Hlaniki village, in Giyani Policing area on 29 January 2025. Reportedly, a female victim was about to close a gate at her residence, when two male suspects pointed her with a firearm, robbed her of her cell phone, cash money, laptops from her house, kidnapped her and drove off with her vehicle. They took her to the bushes at Gon’on’o village in Giyani where one of the suspects raped her, meanwhile the other suspects went to a nearby shopping mall and withdrew money from her bank accounts. The suspects then left the victim in the bushes, abandoned her vehicle and fled from the scene. Police were alerted and a case was opened for further investigations. Subsequent to an intensive investigation, an operation was conducted by members of Mopani District Tracking Team, Mopani District Trio Crime Investigators and Mopani High-Way Patrol, on Monday, 17 February 2025 at around 14:00. Six suspects were arrested, a 47-year-old foreign male was found in possession of a stolen cell phone, and a 30-year-old African male was also found in possession of a stolen laptop at Tshikonele village in Saselamani policing area. After, they bought the stolen items from the main suspect, aged 30, who was arrested for rape, kidnapping, house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm with ammunition. In Hlanganani at Nwa-Matatani village, three suspects aged between 21 and 30 including the main suspect, were arrested at the identified RDP house. They were found in possession of unlicensed firearm and suspected stolen items. Further leads were followed to Ndhengeza village, whereby a 40-year-old male, who is the brother in law of the main suspect, was also arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm. The stolen items were confiscated. The manhunt for the remaining suspect involved in house robbery, rape and kidnapping is still ongoing. The suspect will appear before the local magistrate’s court soon. The Police investigations are underway. Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed her joy after these arrests and two illegal firearms removed from wrong hands and further thanked all members involved in this successful operation.
