Seputla Sebogodi Memorial Service: Family, Friends and Actors Honour Veteran Star in Pretoria
PRETORIA: The South African entertainment industry has come together to remember veteran actor Seputla Sebogodi, as his family, friends and former colleagues gathered at the South African State Theatre in Pretoria for an emotional memorial service.
The gathering brought together those who shared the stage and screen with Sebogodi throughout a celebrated career that spanned decades and left a lasting mark on South African television and theatre.
Among those paying their respects was his widow of six months, Machuene Rosina Semenya, alongside members of the Sebogodi family, close friends and colleagues from some of the country’s most recognised productions.
Actors and industry figures who worked with Sebogodi on popular shows including Generations, Scandal!, The River and Rhythm City attended the memorial to honour a performer remembered for his powerful presence and contribution to South African storytelling.
Representatives from the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture were also present as the country reflected on the loss of one of its respected acting talents.
Sebogodi’s passing on 15 July 2026 sparked tributes from across the entertainment industry, with many remembering him as a gifted performer whose work connected with audiences across generations.
A second memorial service has been confirmed for Friday at Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane, Limpopo.
His funeral service will not be held at his ancestral home in Ga Thoka. Instead, the final farewell is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 25 July 2026, at Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane.
As family, friends and colleagues prepare to say goodbye, South Africa continues to celebrate the legacy of an actor whose performances became part of the country’s cultural history.
