Arthur Zwane Reveals Why He Rejected Bigger Offers to Stay at AmaZulu FC
AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane has revealed why he rejected potentially more lucrative opportunities to remain with the Durban based club, saying his decision was driven by belief, loyalty and a long term vision rather than money.
The former Kaizer Chiefs coach confirmed that several clubs showed interest in securing his services, but he chose to continue building at AmaZulu because he believes in the direction of the project and the people behind it.
While Zwane did not disclose the identity of the teams that approached him, he admitted that coaching rumours are part of football, especially when one season ends and clubs begin making changes.
“ The truth is that at the end of every season there will always be rumours,” Zwane said.
“It doesn’t matter whether a coach has done well or badly. Those stories will always be there.”
Reports suggested that Zwane was among the leading candidates for the Sekhukhune United coaching position, before the club opted to appoint another former Kaizer Chiefs coach, Cedric Kaze.
However, Zwane insisted that speculation often creates stories that do not reflect reality.
“Some people even claim they know what’s happening when they actually don’t,” he said.
Zwane says AmaZulu project convinced him to stay
The AmaZulu coach explained that his future was never a source of panic inside the club because he maintained a strong relationship with president Sandile Zungu, the board and the club’s leadership.
According to Zwane, everyone remained committed to the same vision for AmaZulu’s future.
“That is why nobody at the club panicked about me leaving,” he said.
For Zwane, the decision to stay was not simply a professional choice. He described his position at AmaZulu as one of the most significant opportunities of his career.
The move allowed him to step away from the familiar environment of Kaizer Chiefs, where he spent many years as both a player and coach, and take on a new challenge.
“I can’t just walk away because people are saying good things about me,” Zwane said.
Money was never the only motivation for Zwane
Zwane revealed that chasing financial rewards has never been his main priority, explaining that his career has always been guided by purpose and commitment.
The coach said the same approach shaped his playing career, where he focused on choosing the right path rather than simply following bigger offers.
“I think that’s why I managed to play for so many years,” he said.
He believes young footballers and coaches can learn from his journey by understanding that success is not built by accepting every opportunity that comes with a bigger financial package.
Zwane finds a new home at AmaZulu
Although Zwane acknowledged the important role Kaizer Chiefs played in his career, he said he feels settled and appreciated at AmaZulu.
The coach believes the Durban club is where he is meant to be and remains focused on helping the team achieve its ambitions.
“I believe God led me here. My spirit tells me this is where I belong, so I won’t leave,” Zwane concluded.
Zwane’s decision highlights a growing trend in football where coaches and players are increasingly prioritising stability, trust and long term projects over short term financial gains.
For AmaZulu, retaining a coach with Zwane’s experience represents a commitment to continuity as the club looks to strengthen its position in South African football.
