SAPS Launches High-Level Probe into attempted assassination of Major General Feroz Khan

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has mobilised significant resources to investigate the attempted murder of Major General Feroz Khan, who was shot on Sunday evening in Houghton, Johannesburg.

According to a media statement, the investigation is being led by the Gauteng Hawks, Gauteng Crime Intelligence, and the SAPS Detective Service. The Acting National Commissioner has also directed the inclusion of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) to pursue every possible lead and bring those responsible to justice.

Khan was scheduled to testify before the Madlanga Commission on 1 July 2026. While acknowledging public speculation about the timing of the attack, SAPS emphasised that it is premature to link the incident to his impending appearance before the Commission.

“Detectives will follow evidence wherever it leads,” the statement read.

SAPS has strongly condemned any attempt to intimidate or interfere with judicial processes. Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane described the attack in the strongest terms and assured the public that no resources would be spared in tracking down and arresting the perpetrators.

Lieutenant General Dimpane wished Major General Khan a speedy recovery and extended her thoughts to his family during this difficult time.

The investigation continues.
