SAFA announces venue for Bafana’s AFCON clash against Kenya

SAFA have announced the venue for Bafana Bafana’s first home clash against Kenya in next month’s back-to-back 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

South Africa will host Benni McCarthy’s charges on Friday, 13 November 2026, before travelling to Nairobi for the return fixture on Tuesday, 17 November. Kick-off for the first match is scheduled for 6pm.

The opening encounter will take place at Orlando Amstel Arena in Johannesburg, adding extra intrigue as McCarthy faces his home country for the first time since taking charge of Kenya.

The match will also see him come up against Pitso Mosimane, who is leading Bafana in his latest spell as head coach.

Mosimane’s men head into the qualifiers in strong form, sitting at the top of Group D after winning both their AFCON qualifying matches in September.

Bafana beat Guinea 2-1 at Orlando Amstel Arena before thrashing Eritrea 5-0 in Egypt. They also claimed a 1-0 victory over Egypt in a friendly in Cairo during the same international window.

Those results helped South Africa climb to 48th in the latest FIFA world rankings and 10th in Africa.

Mosimane is expected to announce his preliminary squad in the coming days.
